If you are like me, you are looking at retirement with your eyes wide open. The dollar figure I have in the bank and my 401k plus my earning/savings potential and the economy points to a likely and specific outcome. Retirement will not be a vacation. If not a vacation, what will it be?
Life is short, but it is also long enough to begin a pursuit and get good at it. If we are in agreement that we are working through our older years, now is the time to lay the foundation for what you love to do. Most of us cannot afford to take a break from the jobs that pay the bills but that is no excuse to not start now. Believe it or not, people make money designing landscaping or painting racing flames or inventing baby toys.
The best part may just be that you don’t have to make a million dollars, just enough to get by on your terms. Work 3-4 days a week, take a long weekend and go fishing. Work half days and play with the grandkids every day. You get to choose, again, if you plan wisely…
